Himajal activated carbon filter media — dense granular carbon bed for water adsorption and purification

3 Media Stages

Sand · Iron · Carbon

Himajal Pre-Treatment Filters

Sand, carbon & iron — one filtration train, engineered as a system

Raw and borewell water rarely needs just one treatment. Himajal sizes and sequences multi-media sand, iron-removal and activated-carbon filters together — each stage protecting the next, and protecting your softener or RO plant downstream.

Sand Filter

Removes turbidity, silt & suspended solids

Iron Filter

Oxidizes & traps dissolved iron / manganese

Carbon Filter

Adsorbs chlorine, odour & organic compounds

Correct sequence matters

Sand → Iron removal → Carbon → Softener → RO/UV. Each stage removes what would otherwise foul or shorten the life of the one after it.

  • Manual, semi-auto or auto multiport valve
  • Sediment removal down to 10–20 microns

Stage 1 · Sand Filter

Removes turbidity & sediment before anything else touches your water

A multi-grade silica sand and gravel bed is the first stage in any filtration train. As raw or borewell water flows down through graded layers, suspended silt, clay, rust flakes and algae are physically trapped — cutting turbidity before water reaches any other equipment.

What it removes

  • Turbidity & suspended solids
  • Silt, clay & fine sand
  • Rust flakes & algae

Why it's required

Without it, sediment clogs iron media, fouls carbon pores and coats softener resin & RO membranes — shortening their life and driving up maintenance cost.

Activated carbon filter media — dense granular carbon bed for chlorine adsorption and purification
Stage 2 · Carbon Filter

Adsorbs chlorine, odour and organics — protects everything downstream

Activated (granular) carbon has an enormous internal surface area — a single gram can cover several hundred square metres. As water passes through, chlorine, pesticides and organic compounds bind to that surface instead of passing through, while taste and odour disappear.

What it removes

  • Free chlorine & chloramines
  • Pesticides, VOCs & solvents
  • Bad taste & musty odour

Why it's required

Chlorine oxidizes and degrades RO membranes and softener resin beads over time. Carbon strips it out before it reaches either — while making water safer-tasting to bathe and cook with.

Stage 3 · Iron Filter

Oxidizes and traps dissolved iron & manganese before it can stain

Catalytic media (manganese dioxide / Birm) oxidizes dissolved (ferrous) iron and manganese into an insoluble solid form as water passes through, trapping it in the bed instead of letting it reach your taps — then flushing it out on the next backwash cycle.

What it removes

  • Dissolved iron (Fe)
  • Manganese (Mn)
  • Metallic taste & odour

Why it's required

Untreated iron leaves orange-brown stains on tiles, sinks, clothes and fixtures, clogs pipes and valves, and fouls RO membranes & softener resin far faster than clean water would.

What untreated raw water is silently costing you

Turbidity, chlorine and iron don't just look and taste bad — they steadily damage every water-touching fixture, appliance and treatment stage downstream.

Cloudy, sediment-laden water

Suspended silt, sand and rust particles cloud your water and clog aerators, taps and shower heads.

Chlorine taste & odour

Raw or municipal chlorinated water smells and tastes off, and slowly degrades RO membranes and rubber seals.

Iron & manganese staining

Dissolved iron oxidizes on contact with air, leaving orange-brown stains on tiles, sinks, clothes and fixtures.

Reduced flow, clogged pipes

Sediment and iron sludge build up inside pipes and control valves, throttling flow over time.

Shortened RO membrane & resin life

Unfiltered turbidity, chlorine and iron foul RO membranes and coat softener resin, forcing early replacement.

Metallic-tasting water

High iron and organic content leaves drinking and cooking water tasting metallic or musty.

Why Pre-Filtration Matters

Clearer water, and longer-lasting equipment downstream

Installed at your main inlet, sand, iron and carbon filtration protects every treatment stage and fixture that follows.

Clearer, better-tasting water

Turbidity, chlorine taste and odour are removed before water reaches any tap.

No more rust stains

Iron and manganese are oxidized and trapped before they ever reach a tile, sink or shirt.

Longer RO membrane & softener resin life

Removing turbidity, chlorine and iron upstream means your RO and softener don't have to fight raw water — they just do their job.

Fewer blockages, steady flow

Pipes, valves and aerators stay clear of the sediment and sludge that gradually chokes untreated lines.

Automatic backwash

Time- or flow-based multiport valve flushes trapped sediment and iron out to drain — no manual cleaning.

Common questions

Sand/sediment filter first, then iron removal, then activated carbon — followed by a softener and finally RO/UV if you need drinking water. Each stage protects the one after it: sand removes bulk turbidity, iron removal strips dissolved iron before it can foul carbon or resin, and carbon polishes chlorine, taste and odour last.
